I like Jones, don’t get me wrong, but to pass on Mendenhall because he was an every down type of back is ridiculous. What’s wrong with being capable of carrying a load? God forbid we have an injury at RB, because Jerry has already admitted Felix is only a complimentary back.
Notes: Will wear #28 for the Dallas Cowboys

Pick 2: Round 1 Pick #25
Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida – Grade A
Rationale: In my opinion this was the best draft day move Jerry made, the only thing that would have been better, would have been picking him at #22. This guy was the top rated CB on some Draft Boards, but was in the top 3 among CB on every Draft Board. Jenkins is a great pick up, he’ll be able to step in immediately in Nickel situations, contribute on special teams, and won’t have the added pressure of having to start like most other rookies. This should give him some time to season at his position, and learn the quickness of the NFL.
Notes: Will wear #31 for the Dallas Cowboys

Pick 3: Round 2 Pick #61
Martellus Bennett, TE, Texas A&M – Grade B+
Rationale: I understand this pick, with Fasano gone and only having Tony Curtis as a back-up, this was defiantly a position we needed to draft. But at this spot? Jerry has said he didn’t draft Bennett to be a back up, but that having Bennett added another dimension to the offense. Bennett is a big target, and will hopefully be a big redzone threat. I would have liked to see the Cowboys try and trade into a lower pick and get one of the premier receivers in this years Draft.
Notes: Will wear #80 for the Dallas Cowboys

Pick 4: Round 4 Pick #122
Tashard Choice, RB, Georgia Tech – Grade C
Rationale: If we would have selected Mendenhall with the 22nd pick then this pick would have been completely different. Drafting Mendenhall at #22 would have given Jerry all the leverage he needed in negotiations with MBIII, drafting Felix Jones cut Jerry’s legs out from underneath him, so Jerry had to draft this years MBIII in Tashard Choice, just to have some leverage in negotiating with Barber.

Pick 5: Round 5 Pick #143
Orlando Scandrick, CB, Boise St. – Grade: B+
Rationale: Even after bringing in Pac Man, and drafting Mike Jenkins earlier in the draft, Scandrick is an excellent pick up. Newman is coming up on a contract year, Henry is aging, and nobody is convinced Pac Man Is going to be a choir boy, so why not add depth at a thin position. A lot of boards had Scandrick going in the late 2nd or early 3rd, so getting him in the 5th is a great value pick.

Pick 6: Round 6 #167
Erik Walden, DE, Middle Tennessee St. – Grade D?
Rationale: I have to admit my knowledge on Walden is Minimal at best. I know he will probably transition into a 3-4 OLB to back up Ware, Ellis, and Spencer. I don’t understand this pick though, we have 3 really good OLB’s, and we spent a 1st round pick 2 drafts ago on Bobby Carpenter. Maybe there are plans on moving Carpenter to ILB permanently. I know a lot of experts had Walden rated as a post draft Free Agent, maybe Jerry sees something in him no one else does, or perhaps he can play receiver and this is Jerry’s “WOW” in the draft.

Draft Notes:
I think the Post Parcells ERA might be a lot like the Pre Parcells ERA. A lot of wheeling, a lot of dealing, and a bunch of Cowboy Fans left scratching their heads. I think this was a good draft don’t get me wrong, we added depth at some key positions, added some playmakers, but I don’t think we played our cards the best we could have. We traded out 3 times in the third round, and didn’t once address our need at WR. I’m not sold on Terry Glenn coming back 100%, and the overall age of our WR core has to be among the oldest. Another position I would have liked to see the Cowboys address is OG, Joe Berger is the only OG backup we have on the roster, every other position has at least 2 backups. Maybe Doug Free can play OG and OT, I don’t know. Finally, what about Safety? Did everyone at Valley Ranch forget that Keith Davis gone and that Williams isn’t exactly among the elite Safeties in the league anymore? I understand that this Draft was one of the worst I’ve ever seen as far as Safety is concerned, but we need to do something, get someone at least that’s capable of backing up Roy.

If you want to sound off just e-mail me - randall.hicks@gmail.com

Mock Draft 1.5
randall.hicks@gmail.com

Round 1

1. Miami Dolphins
Jake Long, OT, Michigan
Rationale: Jake Long is the surest pick in this years draft, and while I’m sure the Tuna will try and trade out of this spot I don’t see any takers. So what better way to start building a franchise then with a franchise LT.? The Dolphins already have a franchise DE in Taylor so this pick makes the most sense here.
Previous Pick: Jake Long

2. St. Louis Rams
Chris Long, DE, Virginia
Rationale: The Rams were waiting for whichever Long Miami didn’t take; in this case it was Chris Long. While the Rams need to start looking for a replacement for Pace on the OL, Chris Longs talent is too good to pass on at this spot.
Previous Pick: Chris Long

3. Atlanta Falcons
Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
Rationale: The Falcons are definitely making moves that would lead you to believe they are finally going to tear this thing apart and start over. So Matt Ryan is the obvious pick here, he’s the best QB in the draft, and I think he is very underrated. I like his accuracy and his arm strength is adequate. Needs to improve his footwork, but will do well in this league.
Previous Pick: Matt Ryan

4. Oakland Raiders
Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
Rationale: A lot of Mock Boards have McFadden coming off in this spot, I disagree. While the raiders have spent the offseason rebuilding the defensive side of the ball and only 1 key addition on the offensive side, they grab Dorsey thinking he will do what Sapp was expected but never delivered on: pressure and sacks. The Raiders haven’t drafted well in a few years and don’t have a pick again in this draft until round 4 so this pick needs to be an impact player.
Previous Pick: Glenn Dorsey

5. Kansas City Chiefs
Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
Rationale: The Chiefs really need help on the OL, but there really isn’t anyone worth it with this pick. The Chiefs are going to try and trade out of this spot hoping someone wants to step in and get McFadden or Gholston, but I don’t see that happening. The Chiefs are in a division where everyone runs the ball well so the Chiefs need to be able to stop the run and Ellis can help do that.
Previous Pick: Sedrick Ellis

6. New York Jets
Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
Rationale: The Jets need a DE and a CB but McFadden may be the biggest stud in the draft and the Jets would regret passing on him for years to come. Its possible someone might jump in here and give the Jets an offer they cant refuse. With the way the Jets are rebuilding the OL, McFadden would immediately step up and produce.
Previous Pick: Darren McFadden

7. New England Patriots
Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio St.
Rationale: No one is moving faster up draft boards then Gholston. This guy has been an animal at the combine and at his pro day. While the Pats are looking for a replacement for Samuels, Gholston is too good to pass up. He can play OLB and he can put his hand on the ground. I think the Pats would benefit by bringing in some youth to their defense.
Previous Pick: Vernon Gholston

8. Baltimore Ravens
Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
Rationale: With McNair retiring just recently, that means that Baltimore is in big need of a QB. Obviously this pick is too soon for Brohm, but the Ravens can’t pray that Flacco will be there in Round 2. The only hope for B-More is that someone wants to trade into this spot and get the first CB in the draft.
Previous Pick: Leodis McKelvin

9. Cincinnati Bengals
Keith Rivers, OLB, USC
Rationale: The Bengals have a very potent offense in Palmer, Johnson, & Johnson. Marvin Lewis is an ex defensive coordinator and hasn’t proven to anyone in Cincy that he knows how to build a Defense. With Rivers talent and athleticism he is too hard to pass up.
Previous Pick: Derrick Harvey

10. New Orleans Saints
Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy
Rationale: McKelvin is considered by most to be the best CB in the Draft. The Saints secondary was abused last year so Sean Payton is going to take the right people to help improve this.
Previous Pick: D. Rodgers-Cromartie

11. Buffalo Bills
Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
Rationale: With Kelly’s stock dropping and Thomas still unproven, Sweed is the most reasonable pick here. With Sweed’s size and ability this will be an instant upgrade at the #2 position beside Evans.
Previous Pick: Devin Thomas

12. Denver Broncos
Ryan Clady, OT, Boise St.
Rationale: While the Broncos need help in their LB core, Clady fits in their offensive scheme better then any OL in the draft so both team and player luck out with this pick. If Clady is still on the board at this point there is no way he makes it to #13.
Previous Pick: Ryan Clady

13. Carolina Panthers
Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh
Rationale: A lot of mocks have Mendenhall coming off the board here, but with Delhomme having injury questions and the need for an OT, the Panthers are making the wise decision to protect their franchise QB.
Previous Pick: Limas Sweed

14. Chicago Bears
Branden Albert, OG, Virginia
Rationale: Chicago is too gun shy to use a First round pick on RB, No QB is even close to being worth this pick, so the best way to improve this offense is to upgrade the OL. This should open up some holes for Benson and give Grossman some time to make better decisions. The Bears are crossing their fingers and hoping Flacco is still there in the second round.
Previous Pick: Keith Rivers

15. Detroit Lions
Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt
Rationale: The Lions have a few needs, but with the re-signing of Bell RB isn’t one of them. Protecting the QB is the biggest need so Williams is the biggest talent left on the board on the OL.
Previous Pick: Jeff Otah

16. Arizona Cardinals
D. Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tenn. St.
Rationale: Arizona is in big need of a shut down corner, to help improve the pass rush. The pressure is there but the ability to cover top notch receivers isn’t. This pick should help improve all areas of the defense.
Previous Pick: Mike Jenkins

17. Minnesota Vikings
Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida
Rationale: I had Jackson going here in my last mock, but Harvey was gone a lot earlier. While I think the Vikes will target a receiver in this draft, Harvey is going to be that one missing piece of a phenomenal defense. He should be able to step in and contribute immediately.
Previous Pick: DeSean Jackson

18. Houston Texans
Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois
Rationale: Houston takes all of 10 seconds running to the podium to make this selection. Mendenhall might be the best back in the Draft in the long run, he can catch, runs like a horse, and can block. Mendenhall will make it a lot easier for the Texans to open up the playbook.
Previous Pick: Rashard Mendenhall

19. Philadelphia Eagles
Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan St.
Rationale: The Eagles are defiantly in the market for a play making WR, that’s why Moss was on their radar this off-season. Thomas is considered by some to have the most up-side to any WR in this class. Other then TO, McNabb will finally have a big time threat down the field. But the world knows, Philly fans will still BOO and Cry.
Previous Pick: Malcolm Kelly

20. Tampa Buccaneers
Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
Rationale: Barber is still a shut down corner, and this defense is still world class, but to add another potential shut down corner that will eventually replace Barber, is a great pick. Jenkins will be a stud in this league and Tampa will be pleased.
Previous Pick: Kenny Phillips

21. Washington Redskins
Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson
Rationale: It’s possible the Skins could target, Talib, Phillips, or Phillips here. I’m starting to think the ownership in Washington is taking a new approach this year, with no huge off-season free agent acquisitions. With that said the skins are going to try and buid up their defensive line. Merling is a beast on the DL, with the ability to provide a lot of pressure on the QB and the ability to drop back in coverage. A player with his skill set is too hard to pass up here.
Previous Pick: Aqib Talib

22. Dallas Cowboys
Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
Rationale: We all know that Dallas needs a CB, WR, and a RB. With the top tier CB’s gone at this pick and another pick left at #28, we need to target the nest WR or RB left. The Biggest talent left is Kelly, while a lot of mocks have him dropping I don’t think there is any way he can get past here. He’s a huge target with great hands, while his speed isn’t jaw dropping his route running and his hands are.
Previous Pick: James Hardey

23. Pittsburgh Steelers
James Hardey, WR, Indiana
Rationale: This is the Big WR Big Ben was asking for. While the Steelers need help on the OG, there isn’t anyone at that position worthy of a pick here. I think Hardey is going to be a good fit for the Steelers he’s big and Physical, which will help him win the fans over quick.
Previous Pick: Branden Albert

24. Tennessee Titans
DeSaun Jackson, WR, California
Rationale: The Titans have really missed the boat when it comes to WR. They haven’t given Young any decent help at the WR position. This is where things start to go right. Jackson may not be able top step in immediately on offense, but his return skills will come into play on day 1. With his talent and speed it wont be long before he’s a full time starter making big plays down field.
Previous Pick: Phillip Merling

25. Seattle Seahawks
Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon
Rationale: Even though Julius Jones has just signed a deal with the Hawks, there is no guarantee he can be a guy who can produce for you week in and week out. There seem to be some questions regarding Stewarts health, but his talent + Seattle’s need for a RB, have him being picked here.
Previous Pick: Jonathan Stewart

26. Jacksonville Jaguars
Calais Campbell, DE, Miami
Rationale: While the Jags have a more pressing need in SS, there aren’t really any that stand out in this years draft, while they may pick one up in a later round, their going to take this opportunity to improve an already potent Defense. Merling is a good DE and will benefit from not having to start.
Previous Pick: Chris Williams

27. San Diego Chargers
Kenny Phillips, S, Miami
Rationale: The Chargers are blessed with the fact their team may have the best roster from top to bottom, and while they will address the need to replace Turner, spending first round money and a pick on a back up here is ridiculous. Phillips is the biggest talent left on the board and has huge up side.
Previous Pick: Reggie Smith

28. Dallas Cowboys
Brandon Flowers, CB, Virginia Tech
Rationale: Ok now we can address our biggest need with this pick. While Flowers isn’t McKelvin, Cromartie, or Jenkins he is an impressive talent none the less. Even if the Boys do pick up Pac Man this pick still makes sense. Henry isn’t getting any younger and there’s no guarantee Pac Man is going to be on his best behavior, so this is insurance on both situations. Flowers could benefit with not having to come in and start immediately.
Previous Pick: Brandon Flowers

29. San Francisco 49ers
Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn
Rationale: The 49ers could use this pick to target an OT, but with their defense needing the most help Groves comes off the board here. Groves should be able to step in and make an impact early in the season.
Previous Pick: Sam Baker

30. Green Bay Packers
Aquib Talib, CB, Kansas
Rationale: With the news of Talib’s possible drug use in college, Green Bay gets the benefit of selecting one of the top 5 CB’s in the draft for a bargain. The Pack are going to get a top 15 pick with the 30th pick. The rich get richer.
Previous Pick: Kentwan Balmer

31. New York Giants
Jerod Mayo, ILB, Tennessee
Rationale: Most Draft boards have the Giants selecting Dan Conner with this pick. I think Mayo fits better into the Giants defensive scheme then Conner does.
Previous Pick: Jerod Mayo

“Listed in the hR NFL Mock Draft Database”
http://hailredskins.com/MockDraft.htm
Any Comments – Email me randall.hicks@gmail.com

Round 2

1. Miami – Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina
2. St. Louis – Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College
3. Oakland – Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC
4. Kansas City – Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona
5. NY Jets – Dan Conner, OLB, Penn St.
6. Atlanta – Sam Baker, OT, USC
7. Baltimore – Patrick Lee, CB, Auburn
8. San Francisco – Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan
9. New Orleans – Trevor Laws, DT, Notre Dame
10. Buffalo – Erin Henderson, OLB, Maryland
11. Denver – Reggie Smith, S, Oklahoma
12. Carolina – Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas
13. Chicago – Joe Flacco, QB, Delaware
14. Detroit – Tracey Porter, CB, Indiana
15. Cincinnati – Marcus Harrison, DT, Arkansas
16. Minnesota – Andre Caldwell, WR, Florida
17. Atlanta – Curtis Lofton, LB, Oklahoma
18. Philadelphia – Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska
19. Arizona – Cliff Avril, OLB, Purdue
20. Washington – Chilo Rachal, OG, USC
21. Tampa Bay – Donnie Avery, WR, Houston
22. Pittsburgh – Fred Davis, TE, USC
23. Tennessee – Dustin Keller, TE, Purdue
24. Seattle – John Carlson, TE, Notre Dame
25. Green Bay – Martellus Bennett, TE, Texas A&M
26. Miami – Justin King, CB, Penn St.
27. Jacksonville – Dre Moore, DT, Maryland
28. Indianapolis – Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers
29. Green Bay – DaJuan Morgan, S, North Carolina St.
30. Dallas – Jamall Charles, RB, Texas
31. New England – Charles Godfrey, CB, Iowa
32. NY Giants – Tyrell Johnson, S, Arkansas St.

“Listed in the hR NFL Mock Draft Database”
http://hailredskins.com/MockDraft.htm
Any Comments – Email me randall.hicks@gmail.com

Mock Draft 1.3

randall.hicks@gmail.com

Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy
Rationale: It’s really hard to decide who’s 1, 2, and 3 at the CB position. Personally I think McKelvin may be the best CB in the draft (that’s up for debate). He comes from a small school so I think there will be a hard transition from college to the pros. That being said I think he’s physically and mentally capable of making the transition and will eventually be a shut down CB at the next level. If Atlanta doesn’t select Matt Ryan with the 3rd pick then this is where he will come off the board.
Previous Pick: Leodis McKelvin

9. Cincinnati Bengals
Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida
Rationale: The Bengals have a very potent offense in Palmer, Johnson, & Johnson. Marvin Lewis is an ex defensive coordinator and hasn’t proven to anyone in Cincy that he knows how to build a Defense. Derrick Harvey is an instant upgrade and will have immediate success. Maybe Cincy can stop someone and win some games this year.
Previous Pick: Derrick Harvey

10. New Orleans Saints
D. Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tenn. St.
Rationale: The Saints defiantly need help at CB. They may be the only other team that needs one worse then the Cowboys. So the Saints grab the #2 CB in the draft D. Rodgers-Cromartie. Cromartie and McKelvin are going to have the same issues coming into the league but both will ultimately have Success.
Previous Pick: D. Rodgers-Cromartie

11. Buffalo Bills
Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan St.
Rationale: A lot of Mocks have Malcolm Kelly getting picked in this spot, I think with the recent news and the less then expected 40 times he is going to fall. Thomas at 6’2” 216lbs is a good pick for Buffalo. I think pairing him and Evans is going to be a nasty combination.
Previous Pick: Malcolm Kelly

Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
Rationale: Steve Smith is a 1 man show. Now at least he’ll have someone who can take some heat off him. This will make it harder for teams to double him so he can stretch the field and that will only open up the running game. Good Pick Carolina.
Previous Pick: Devin Thomas

14. Chicago Bears
Keith Rivers, OLB, USC
Rationale: This is a tough pick; the Bears can either go with Brian Brohm, Rashard Mendenhall, or the biggest talent at left in Rivers. I don’t feel like the Bears organization is ready to give up on Grossman yet, and I think they might be gun shy about using a 1st round pick on a RB. That’s how we get to Rivers. Rivers is only going to help improve this Defense. With the Bears unwilling to pay big money this may be Urlacher’s replacement in 2 years.
Previous Pick: Keith Rivers

15. Detroit Lions
Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh
Rationale: The Lions may be tempted to take a shot at Mendenhall with this pick, but in the end they need to address their biggest need OT. Jeff Otah is an instant upgrade over anyone the Lions currently have on their roster. It’s not the sexy pick but it’s defiantly the right pick for now and for the future.
Previous Pick: Jeff Otah

16. Arizona Cardinals
Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
Rationale: The Cardinals need to start looking for an eventual replacement for Edge, with Stewart and Mendenhall still on the board this is a definite possibility. I think the Talent of Jenkins and the real need for a CB leads us to this selection.
Previous Pick: Mike Jenkins

17. Minnesota Vikings
Desean Jackson, WR, California
Rationale: Rice hasn’t produced like expected and now its time to find his replacement. Jackson should step up immediately on special teams as a returner, but will be able to contribute on offense as well. With the opposing defense stacking the box to stop Peterson it shouldn’t be hard for Jackson to get open.
Previous Pick: DeSean Jackson

18. Houston Texans
Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois
Rationale: Houston takes all of 10 seconds running to the podium to make this selection. Mendenhall might be the best back in the Draft in the long run, he can catch, runs like a horse, and can block. Mendenhall will make it a lot easier for the Texans to open up the playbook.
Previous Pick: Rashard Mendenhall

19. Philadelphia Eagles
Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
Rationale: Other then TO the Eagles have never really given McNabb any #1 receiver. This guy changes that. Kelly is a huge target at 6’4” & 224lbs and has great hands. While there are questions coming up about his 40 time I think he will be fine.
Previous Pick: Limas Sweed

20. Tampa Buccaneers
Kenny Phillips, FS, Miami
Rationale: A lot of Mock Drafts have Tampa selecting a WR here. I don’t see the need for WR that pressing. So the Bucs do what the Bucs do build an incredible defense with players that will hit you in the mouth, and then grind it out on offense.
Previous Pick: Kenny Phillips

21. Washington Redskins
Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas
Rationale: There are some questions coming to light about his use of marijuana in college that could possibly effect his draft position. If this turns out to be nothing then Washington will pick him up here. The Skins could also target Reggie Smith with this pick.
Previous Pick: Aqib Talib

22. Dallas Cowboys
James Hardy, WR, Indiana
Rationale: While most Cowboy fans agree (including myself) the biggest need we have is CB, I don’t see anyone in the next 5 picks targeting a CB. So whatever CB is still here at #22 will be here at #28. WR is a different story, so I say lets pick the best receiver in the Draft James Hardy. While I would rather have Sweed, there’s not a lot of difference in size or speed. I think Sweed may have better hands then Hardy but only time will tell with Sweeds injury.
Previous Pick: James Hardey

23. Pittsburgh Steelers
Branden Albert, OG, Virginia
Rationale: This is the only logical choice the Steelers have. Albert is the best guard in the draft and should be an adequate replacement for Fanneca. The Steelers are going to target a receiver with size in this years draft, but not until the later rounds.
Previous Pick: Branden Albert

24. Tennessee Titans
Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson
Rationale: The Titans are hoping the Cowboys take a CB with that 22nd pick so Hardy can slide to them. Sorry guys. Other then WR most of the Titans needs are on the defensive side of the ball. Merling is an impressive talent, with speed and size, almost Kearse like with more size.
Previous Pick: Phillip Merling

25. Seattle Seahawks
Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon
Rationale: Even though Julius Jones has just signed a deal with the Hawks, there is no guarantee he can be a guy who can produce for you week in and week out. There seem to be some questions regarding Stewarts health, but his talent + Seattle’s need for a RB, have him being picked here.
Previous Pick: Jonathan Stewart

26. Jacksonville Jaguars
Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt
Rationale: While the Jags have a more pressing need in SS, there aren’t really any that stand out in this years draft, while they may pick one up in a later round, bringing in an OT with Williams talent is a good idea.
Previous Pick: Chris Williams

27. San Diego Chargers
Reggie Smith, FS, Oklahoma
Rationale: The Chargers are blessed with the fact that they really don’t have any major holes to fill so I think they make the smart move and bring in an athlete who can play both FS and CB. They might also try and replace Turner here by selecting Felix Jones.

Sam Baker, OT, USC
Rationale: I think the 49ers need to replace Jennings, and why not pick up the California kid. Baker may not be the biggest OT in the draft but he has excellent lower body strength and is a beast in the running game. I think this is a good pick up for the 49ers.
Previous Pick: Sam Baker

30. Green Bay Packers
Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina
Rationale: While the Pack does need a CB, they also need a DT and the biggest talent left on the board at either position is Balmer. Balmer is a big body who is going to take up to lineman at a time leaving the DE and LB’s free to roam and punish people.
Previous Pick: Kentwan Balmer

31. New York Giants
Jerod Mayo, ILB, Tennessee
Rationale: Most Draft boards have the Giants selecting Dan Conner with this pick. I think Mayo fits better into the Giants defensive scheme then Conner does.
Previous Pick: Jerod Mayo

“Listed in the hR NFL Mock Draft Database”
http://hailredskins.com/MockDraft.htm
Any Comments – Email me randall.hicks@gmail.com

Mock Draft 1.2

randall.hicks@gmail.com

Previous Pick: Glenn Dorsey

5. Kansas City Chiefs
Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC

Rationale: The Chiefs need help on the OL but there isn’t anyone worth picking here and I’m sure they’re hoping someone will trade up to get McFadden. That scenario is very possible. If no trades occur I see the Chiefs grabbing immediate help on the DL. Sedrick Ellis is a run stopper, and this will be an instant upgrade.

Previous Pick: Ryan Clady

Previous Pick: D. Rodgers-Cromartie

Previous Pick: Leodis McKelvin

11. Buffalo Bills
Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma

Rationale: The Bills are going to grab the tallest and possibly best WR in the Draft to pair with Lee Evans. This is an amazing pick because it fills a need and it’s the best athlete left on the board enough said.

Previous Pick: Malcolm Kelly

Previous Pick: Jeff Otah

13. Carolina Panthers
Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan St.

Rationale: Steve Smith is a 1 man show. Now at least he’ll have someone who can take some heat off him. This will make it harder for teams to double him so he can stretch the field and that will only open up the running game. Good Pick Carolina.

Previous Pick: Keith Rivers

Previous Pick: Brian Brohm

Previous Pick: Rashard Mendenhall

Previous Pick: Jonathan Stewart

Previous Pick: Calais Campbell

Previous Pick: Chris Williams

19. Philadelphia Eagles
Limas Sweed, WR, Texas

Rationale: Other then TO the Eagles have never really given McNabb any #1 receiver. This guy changes that. Sweed is a huge target at 6’4” and has great hands. While there are injury questions I think he’s too good to pass up with this pick. Oh and yes Eagle fans will still BOO.

Previous Pick: DeSean Jackson

Previous Pick: Reggie Smith

21. Washington Redskins
Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas

Rationale: There are some questions coming to light about his use of marijuana in college and may possibly effect his draft position. If this turns out to be nothing then Washington will pick him up here. The Skins could also target Reggie Smith with this pick.

Previous Pick: Devin Thomas

WR is a different story, so I say lets pick the best receiver left in the Draft, James Hardy. While I would rather have Sweed, there’s not a lot of difference in size or speed. I think Sweed may have better hands then Hardy but only time will tell with Sweeds injury.

Previous Pick: Limas Sweed

Previous Pick: James Hardy

Previous Pick: Phillip Merling

26. Jacksonville Jaguars
Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt

Rationale: While the Jags have a more pressing need in SS, there aren’t really any that stand out in this years draft, while they may pick one up in a later round, bringing in an OT with Williams talent is a good idea.

Previous Pick: Sedrick Ellis

Previous Pick: Felix Jones

Previous Pick: Mike Jenkins

29. San Francisco 49ers
Sam Baker, OT, USC

Rationale: I think the 49ers need to replace Jennings, and why not pick up the California kid. Baker may not be the biggest OT in the draft but he has excellent lower body strength and is a beast in the running game. I think this is a good pick up for the 49ers.

Previous Pick: Gosder Cherilus

30. Green Bay Packers
Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina

Rationale: While the Pack does need a CB, they also need a DT and the biggest talent left on the board at either position is Balmer. Balmer is a big body who is going to take up 2 offensive lineman at a time leaving the DE and LB’s free to roam and punish people.

Previous Pick: Justin King

31. New York Giants
Jerod Mayo, ILB, Tennessee

Rationale: Most Draft boards have the Giants selecting Dan Conner with this pick. I think Mayo fits better into the Giants defensive scheme then Conner does.

Previous Pick: Jerod Mayo

"Listed in the hR NFL Mock Draft Database"

http://hailredskins.com/MockDraft.htm
Any Comments - Email me randall.hicks@gmail.com

Mock Draft 1.1

Mock Draft 1.1

1 Miami Dolphins

Jake Long, OT, Michigan
Rationale: Bill Parcels is in full rebuilding mode, and what better way to start building a team then from the OL. He wants to see what his young QB can do, and that will be hard if he’s constantly running from pressure. Jake Long is the surest pick in this years draft and the Big Tuna isn’t a risk taker.

Previous Pick: Same

2 St. Louis Rams

Chris Long, DE, Virginia
Rationale: The Rams are hoping with their fingers crossed that Miami doesn’t take Chris Long off the board with the first pick. Lucky for them he’s still here, and what a perfect place for him to land, he gets the chance to play opposite Adam Carriker. This could be a DL to deal with for many many years.

Previous Pick: Same

3 Atlanta Falcons

Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
Rationale: This franchise is in need of a big face lift and what better face to put on it then the squeaky clean face of Matt Ryan from Boston College. This pick makes the most sense for them as the have acquired Michael Turner in free agency.

Previous Pick: Same

4 Oakland Raiders

Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
Rationale: The Raiders don’t want to be in this spot, they’re really hoping that the Cowboys will trade in to get McFadden, but it’s not going to happen. The Raiders have spent the entire off season addressing the Offensive side of the ball, now is where they grab the surest thing on the Defensive side.

Previous Picks: Darren McFadden

5 Kansas City Chiefs

Ryan Clady, OT, Boise St.
Rationale: The Chiefs are aging at the OT position, and Ryan Clady can provide that youth. They were hoping Jake Long might slide to them but there is no chance of that happening. Although they like Clady they would prefer to get him later in this round by trading out.

Previous Pick: Same

6 New York Jets

Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
Rationale: With 2 really good prospects to choose from, the Jets choose offense. At least they can put some points on the board this year and maybe save Mangini’s job.

Previous Pick: Vernon Gholston

7 New England Patriots (From 49ers)

Vernon Gholston, OLB, Ohio State
Rationale: No one is flying up draft boards quicker then this guy. He’s had awesome numbers at the combine and at his pro day. He’s going to fit in, and eventually anchor the LB core.

Previous Pick: Leodis McKelvin

8 Baltimore Ravens

D. Rogers-Cromartie, CB, Tenn St.
Rationale: While the Ravens still need to find their identity at QB, the really isn’t anyone at this spot worthy of that pick, so the Ravens do what they always do find a diamond in the rough on the defensive side of the ball. Then the cross their fingers and hope Flacco or Henne is there in the second.

Previous Pick: Glenn Dorsey

9 Cincinnati Bengals

Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida
Rationale: While all the off the field problems are on the offense, all the on the field problems are on defense. Harvey is an instant upgrade with both size and speed, and will be able to step in and contribute immediately.

Previous Pick: Same

10 New Orleans Saints

Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy
Rationale: The Saints need to address the secondary with this pick so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mike Jenkins or McKelvin with this pick, the only other real possibility is Keith River from USC.

Previous Pick: D. Rogers-Cromartie

11 Buffalo Bills

Malcom Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
Rationale: The Bills need to start improving the WR position immediately. Drafting Kelly would be the smartest decision they could make with this pick. He’s tall athletic and strong, the type of receiver every QB wishes they had on their team.

Previous Pick: Same

12 Denver Broncos

Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh
Rationale: The Broncos were hoping that Clady would fall to them here but its not going to happen, so they get the next best OT in the draft. Otah is a crushing run blocker with an attitude. Denver will fall in love with him.

Previous Pick: Same

13 Carolina Panthers
Keith Rivers, OLB, USC
Rationale: This is a tricky pick; the Panthers could have addressed either side of the ball with this pick, but ultimately settled on the biggest talent at this spot. This guy is a ball hawk and will be a playmaker for years to come.

Previous Pick: Rashard Mendenhall

14 Chicago Bears

Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
Rationale: Grossman is not the answer for the present for the future for anything. This pick would have all of Chicago cheering for the first time in a long time on draft day. Brohm was rated the third best QB in this and last years draft, but I think a lot of people are sleeping on him. We’ll see.

Previous Pick: Same

15 Detroit Lions

Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois
Rationale: The Lions lucked out the Bears didn’t take him and what a jewel at 15. A lot of the scouts are projecting him to have a better pro career then McFadden.

Previous Pick: Sedrick Ellis

16 Arizona Cardinals
Jonathen Stewart, RB, Oregon
Rationale: The Cardinals could target a CB here, but I think with the talent Stewart possesses he is very hard to pass up at this spot. Edge isn’t getting any younger or faster, this pick solidifies that position for years to come.

Previous Pick: Keith Rivers

17 Minnesota Vikings
Calais Campbell, DE, Miami
Rationale: Another strong athletic body to throw out there on the DL. While Campbell is probably a little raw he doesn’t have to carry a load on his shoulders and this is only going to help him in the long run.

Previous Pick: Same

18 Houston Texans
Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt
Rationale: Anything is an improvement over what the Texans have at OL. This guy can play either Guard or Tackle. This is exactly what the Texans need seeing as how the often they are first in the league with sacks allowed.

Previous Pick: Same

19 Philadelphia Eagles

DeSaun Jackson, WR, California
Rationale: The Eagles are looking for a big time receiver – Here you go. The Eagle fans will probably boo anyways. This guy solves 2 needs on your team – A deep threat wide-out and an excellent kick/punt returner.

Previous Pick: Same

20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Reggie Smith, CB/S, Oklahoma
Rationale: A lot of people have the Bucs selecting a WR, I just don’t see it. The Bucs are and will be a Defensive Football team. So why not bring in a guy who can hit play corner or safety and can contribute immediately. If you bring in a wide out chances are he can’t help you now.

Previous Pick: Same

21 Washington Redskins
Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State
Rationale: The Redskins need help at WR and this guy fills that need big time. He needs work on his route running but his hands are very good. The Redskins have short WR’s, adding Thomas would change that and give them a big target in the red zone.

Previous Pick: Same

22 Dallas Cowboys (From Browns)
Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
Rationale: The Boys get to take the Best Receiver available with this pick. There are some questions at CB, but I think the Cowboys can address that with the 28th pick. The sexy pick at this spot is Felix Jones RB from Arkansas, but with a deep RB draft this can be addressed in the second round.

Previous Pick: Same

23 Pittsburgh Steelers
Branden Albert, OG, Virginia
Rationale: The Steelers are trying to protect the huge investment they made with Big Ben. Losing Faneca I’m sure wasn’t the best idea, so lets put us in a promising young talent to help anchor that line for years.

Previous Pick: Same

24 Tennessee Titans

James Hardey, WR, Indiana

Rationale: This is the big WR Tennessee has been looking for. Someone with good hands and knows how to find the soft spot in a zone. I think this could be a lethal combination for many years VY to Hardy, TD.

Previous Pick: Same

25 Seattle Seahawks
Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson
Rationale: This is a good pick up for the Seahawks. Some people have Merling graded out as the top DE in the Draft. With an already stout DL Merling can come in on certain packages and won’t be depended on to save the franchise as some of these rookies will be. What a DE duo Patrick Kerney and Phillip Merling.

Previous Pick: Jonathan Stewart

26 Jacksonville Jaguars
Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
Rationale: This is a good pick up for the Jags. While they had a good defense last year, Ellis would be an immediate upgrade. This guy can clog up the middle and take on 2 linemen. Defense wins championships.

Previous Pick: Phillip Merling

27 San Diego Chargers
Felix Jones - RB – Arkansas
Rationale: Losing Turner in Free Agency wasn’t good, but as luck would have it here is Felix Jones, the same type back as Turner. And since the Chargers don’t have any real glaring needs this is the best choice.

Previous Pick: Same

28 Dallas Cowboys
Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
Rationale: Even if Pac Man is coming to Dallas there is no guarantee he’ll be on his best behavior, so getting insurance on him with this pick is a great idea. Jenkins is one of the bigger CB in this years draft, and could step in and contribute immediately in nickel and dime packages.

Previous Pick: Same

29 San Francisco 49ers (From Colts)
Gosder Cherilus, OT, BC
Rationale: Its time to start protecting whoever the QB is in SF. Cherilus brings size and athleticism to the table. He could be a solid starter for years to come. Most boards have Cherilus going early in the second, but with this being such a glaring need for SF, they cant pass him up here.

Previous Pick: Same

30 Green Bay Packers
Justin King, CB, Penn State
Rationale: A very speedy raw talent who could excel in the man coverage GB likes to play. Will not be an immediate starter which is only going to benefit him and the Pack in the long run. Might return punts and kicks his rookie season because of his great speed.

Previous Pick: Same

31 New York Giants
Jerod Mayo, LB, Tennessee
Rationale: The consensus pick here is Dan Conner, but I think a lot of people have Mayo flying up their boards right now, so I’m going against the grain but don’t be surprised if you see this pick happen here.

Previous Pick: Same

"Listed in the hR NFL Mock Draft Database" http://hailredskins.com/MockDraft.htm

Any Comments - Email me randall.hicks@gmail.com

Off-Season Questions Unanswered
randall.hicks@gmail.com

With the Mavs struggling to get into the playoffs, the Rangers kicking off another season destined for the same result as always, the only thing we have left for this year are the Stars and the Boys. That’s okay everyone else can be the kings of loserville right now, but not my Boys. The expectations surrounding Valley Ranch this year have never been higher. With the Boys coming off a 13-3 season, 12 Pro Bowlers, and a disappointing playoff loss the enthusiasm around here has to be far greater then around any other franchise. Yet there are still many unanswered questions.

1. Roy Williams – Beast or Burden?
Well with this question, ultimately time will tell. The Cowboy Nation is beginning to become less patient with his lack of ability to cover. It appears that Roy has become more of a liability on the field then an asset. Lets just be honest with ourselves, Roy hasn’t covered anyone and his one time crushing hits in the run game are missing. 0U fans if your reading this please send me a Video or something with his highlights from the 07-08 season. I’ll save you some time; you have to look at other peoples highlights to see Roy. I think the only option we have at this point is to Draft a good corner in the first round and possibly acquire Pac Man in a trade. This will allow us to pull Roy in passing situations thus taking him out of coverage almost completely. I have received a ton of E-Mail from fans wanting us to put him at OLB, this is a bad idea. If we put him at OLB who’s going to play safety? Probably Henry right? Well then who plays CB? Pac Man? The Rookie? Pac Man hasn’t played in a single football game since January 07, and rookies usually don’t do well when they’re thrown into the starter role, especially at CB. But if creating 2 problems to save one is your idea of a fix then I say lets do it.

2. Is Jerry going to trade to get McFadden?
Lets pray this is only a rumor created by Al Davis to try and get someone to take his spot at 4th. If Jerry is even thinking about doing this we should probably see if we can get him committed. Can the entire Cowboy Nation agree that MBIII is an exciting back to watch? With his bruising and punishing running style we need to find a compliment to him with elite speed and who’s only ready to split the carries. McFadden isn’t going to split carries, not willingly. Whoever we get is going to split carries with MBIII that’s a fact. With that said why use 2 first round picks, spend top 5 money on a part-time player? Think about that for 1 second. It doesn’t sound that good when you put it like that. Were not going to trade MBIII either so stop saying we can get a first for MBIII. No we can’t and even if we could I’m not sold that there is a back with his skills in this draft.

3. Is Pac Man coming to Dallas?
This deal almost seems inevitable. I’ve never seen anyone though with as little leverage as the Titans pretend that they have any leverage. The only move that Jeff Fischer can make without ostracizing himself from his fan base is to trade him. I know he’s said maybe Jones will be in a Titan uniform next year. The chances of this happening are 0% and I’m being very liberal on that 0. Pac Man is going to be in some uniform maybe not Dallas but defiantly not a Titan. I only know of 2 other teams that might be interested – The Saints and the Pats, but I don’t think either one is willing to give anymore then the Boys. So, my guestimate is 90% Pac Man will be wearing #21 in Dallas.

4. Can Terry Glenn come back?
I think a lot of our decisions depend on this question being answered. The Boys have invited some receivers to come and work out from this years draft pool, but this isn’t a yes or a no that Terry can come back. The Boys need to be prepared either way. With the age of our WR’s, I think even if Terry is 100% healthy and we can get a Sweed or Kelly at 22 we should do it. I know everyone at Valley Ranch is saying he is 100% and we should expect him back in full force. Let’s Pray.

Any Questions or Comments E-Mail me or leave them at on this page randall.hicks@gmail.com

Mock Draft 1.0

1
Miami Dolphins
With the First Selection in the 2008 NFL Draft the Miami Dolphins Select Jake Long, OT, Michigan from the University of Michigan
2
St. Louis Rams
With the Second Selection in the 2008 NFL Draft the St. Louis Rams Select Chris Long, DE, Virginia
3
Atlanta Falcons
With the Third Selection in the 2008 NFL Draft the Atlanta Falcons Select Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
Rationale: This franchise is in need of a big face lift and what better face to put on it then the squeaky clean face of Matt Ryan from Boston College. This pick makes the most sense for them as the have acquired Michael Turner in free agency.
4
Oakland Raiders
With the Fourth Selection in the 2008 NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders Select Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
Rationale: The raiders are hoping the Cowboys will try and work out a trade to get McFadden but its not going to happen, So the Raiders are in a position where they have to take the best talent on the board.
5
Kansas City Chiefs
With the Fifth Selection in the 2008 NFL Draft the Kansas City Chiefs Select Ryan Clady, OT, Boise St.
Rationale: The Cheifs are aging at the OL position, and Ryan Clady can provide that youth. They were hoping Jake Long might slide to them but there is no chance of this happening. Although they like Clady they would prefer to get him later in this round by trading out.
6
New York Jets
Vernon Gholston, OLB, Ohio State
Rationale: No one is flying up draft boards quicker then this guy. He’s had awesome numbers at the combine and at his pro day. Gholston fits their Defensive schemes better then the newly departed Vilma.
7
New England Patriots (From 49ers)
Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy
Rationale: Samuel is gone, and who better to replace him then the best CB in the draft. The Pats could look at DE or LB but Belicheck has made a livin out of making OK guys into great guys, so I think they’ll pick an OLB and a DE in later rounds.
8
Baltimore Ravens
Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
Rationale: It wasn’t expected for Dorsey to fall this far in the Draft but the Ravens have lucked out. If the Coach wants to make Ray Lewis happy, nothing will make him happier then Nata and Dorsey on the DL hoggin up all the OL’s.
9
Cincinnati Bengals
Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida
Rationale: While all the off the field problems are on the offense, all the on the field problems are on defense. Harvey is an instant upgrade with both size and speed, and will be able to step in and contribute immediately.
10
New Orleans Saints
D. Rodgers-Cromartie , CB, Tennessee St.
Rationale: I think the Saints need to address their secondary with this pick. DRC can come in and improve a defense that beat up the entire season.
11
Buffalo Bills
Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
Rationale: The Bills need to start improving the WR position immediately. Drafting Kelly would be the smartest decision they could make with this pick. He’s tall athletic and strong, the type of receiver every QB wishes they had on their team.
12
Denver Broncos
Jeff Otah , OT, Pittsburgh
Rationale: The Broncos were hoping that Clady would fall to them here but its not going to happen, so they get the next best OT in the draft. Otah is a crushing run blocker with an attitude. Denver will fall in love with him.
13
Carolina Panthers
Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois
Rationale: This is a tricky pick, the Panthers could have addressed either side of the ball with this pick, but ultimately settled on the biggest talent at this spot.
14
Chicago Bears
Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
Rationale: Grossman is not the answer for the present for the future for anything. This pick would have all of Chicago cheering for the first time in a long time on draft day.
15
Detroit Lions
Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
Rationale: This isn’t a sexy pick but wise none the lesser. Detroit can cheer because it isn’t a WR. Ellis is a physical body and a good replacement for the departed Shaun Rogers.
16
Arizona Cardinals
Keith Rivers, OLB, USC
Rationale: The Best Defensive player left on the board. This guy is a ball hawk with speed and will be productive immediately.
17
Minnesota Vikings
Calais Campbell, DE, Miami
Rationale: Another strong athlectic body to throw out there on the DL. While Campbell is probably a little raw he doesn’t have to carry a load on his shoulders and this is only going to help him in the long run.
18
Houston Texans
Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt
Rationale: Anything is an improvement over what the Texans have at OL. This guy can play either Guard or Tackle. This is exactly what the Texans need seeing as how the often are the worst in the league in pass blocking.
19
Philadelphia Eagles
DeSean Jackson, WR, California
Rationale: The Eagles are looking for a big time receiver – Here you go. The Eagle fans will probably boo anyways. This guy solves 2 needs on your team – A deep threat wide-out and an excellent kick/punt returner.
20
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Reggie Smith, CB/S, Oklahoma
Rationale: A lot of people have the Bucs selecting a WR, I just don’t see it. The Bucs are and will be a defensive Football team. So why not bring in a guy who can hit play corner or safety and can contribute immediately. If you bring in a wide out chances are he cant help you now.
21
Washington Redskins
Devin Thomas/WR/Michigan St.
Rationale: The Redskins need help at WR and this guy fills that need Bigtime. He needs work on his route running but his hands are very good.
22
Dallas Cowboys (From Browns)
Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
Rationale: The Boys get to take the Best Receiver available with this pick. There are some questions at CB, but I think the Cowboys can address that with the 28th pick. The sexy pick at this spot is Felix Jones RB from Arkansas, but with a deep RB draft this can be addressed in the second round.
23
Pittsburgh Steelers
Branden Albert/OG/Virginia
Rationale: The Steelers are trying to protect the huge investment they made with Big Ben
24
Tennessee Titans
James Hardy/WR/Indiana
Rationale: This is the big WR Tennessee has been looking for. Someone with good hands and knows how to find the soft spot in a zone.
25
Seattle Seahawks
Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon
Rationale: Here comes the Hometown pick and Seattle couldn’t be happier, seeing as how Julius Jones hasn’t proven anything since he’s been in the league and Shaun Alexander is on his last leg.
26
Jacksonville Jaguars
Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson
Rationale: This is a good pick up for the Jags. Some people have Merling graded out as the top DE in the Draft. With an already stout DL Merling can come in on certain packages and wont be depended on to save the franchise as some of these rookies will be.
27
San Diego Chargers
Felix Jones - RB – Arkansas
Rationale: Losing Turner in Free Agency wasn’t good, but as luck would have it here is Felix Jones, the same type back as Turner. And since the Chargers don’t have any real glaring needs this is the best choice.
28
Dallas Cowboys
Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
Rationale: Even if PacMan is coming to Dallas there is no guarantee he’ll be on his best behavior, so getting insurance on him with this pick is a great idea.
29
San Francisco 49ers (From Colts)
Gosder Cherilus - OT – BC
Rationale: Its time to start protecting whoever the QB is in SF. Cherilus brings size and athleticism to the table. He could be a solid starter for years to come.
30
Green Bay Packers
Justin King, CB, Penn State
Rationale: A very speedy raw talent who could excel in the man coverage GB likes to play.
31
New York Giants
Jerod Mayo - LB – Tennessee
Rationale: A lot of other mock drafts have him going higher then this but I don’t. Mayo is an excellent talent and would fit nicely in the NYG LB mold. He could step in and contribute immediately.

Not So Pressing Needs In the Upcoming Draft

Okay where to begin, this year we have two first round picks 22 & 28 and also 61 in the 2nd round. What a blessing and a curse at the same time. A blessing because we can use these picks to address some definate needs but a curse at the same time because gunslinger Jones is liable to do anything he can to screw this up. Now I’m not writing this blog to ask who we should pick. Its obvious we need a CB, WR, and RB and I think we can all agree on this. I want to address some other not so pressing issues we need to fill in this draft.
Not so pressing needs

1 - OG

The OL appears to be a very solid group but if you take a look at the depth chart we appear to be very short at the OG position.
Joe Berger
Leonard Davis
Kyle Kosier
Who is Joe Berger? This guy has’nt sniffed the field ever. If one of the OG go down, do you trust this guy to stay healthy and fill this spot? I dont, not until he can prove himself. Even if this guy is capable of stepping in and keeping up with the drum beat, we have nobody behind him. I would like to see the boys make a smart decision and try and use a 5th or a 6th to address this need.

2 - Safety

Is anyone going to agree with me when I say Roy Wiliams isnt the same player he used to be. I’m sorry Okies I see you at every game wearing your 31 jerseys and your 0U hats, but your savior isnt relavent anymore when you talk about elite safties in this league. Not even close. Conversation over. With that being said Ken Hamlin our frachised player for 2008, its not a gaurantee were gonna pay this guy what he wants next offseason. Maybe Jerry will sign him during the season so this doesnt become a major distraction. Lets just say for s***** and giggles, we sign Hamlin to a longterm deal. Isn’t it time we start trying to develop someone behind Roy. I dont mean let Roy tutor him and teach him the horse-collar and how to get beat deep in coverage, but have some young talent that Campo can work with. Oh, I can hear you now " what about Watkins?". Are you serious, this guy has’nt shown me anything to make me feel like we can rely on him. I think him and Roy watch the same game tapes.

3 - FB

As of right this minute this is our depth chart at FB
Deon AndersonRonnie Cruz
I know that Deon has some upside, but I also know he had a pretty serious injury last season. I would like to see Jerry go after someone tough at this spot. Maybe Owen Schmitt from WV. If Jerry doesnt feel he can get the right player I’m sure he’ll stay put, and I’m okay with that.

Alright thats enough for one day. I’m going to try and put something out everyday concerning the state of Valley Ranch.
